  3.                      PROFESSOR WEISSMAN'S ALGEBRA SOFTWARE

  5. 1. Very user friendly.  One menu displays all the programs available.  These 
  6. programs are accessed with arrow keys.
  7.  
  8. 2.  There are at least 15 different programs, each with up to 5 levels of 
  9. difficulty.

  11. 3.  When a student answers 3 in a row correctly, the software automatically 
  12. branches to the next leve, or back to the menu.  The student also may manually 
  13. branch up or down levels.

  15. 4.  All problems are randomly generated, guaranteeing a different set of 
  16. problems each time the software is used.

  18. 5.  Students enter answers freeform, and do not choose from multiple choices.
  19.  
  20. 6.  Exponents are typed as superscripts using the up and down arrow keys.  
  21. Students need not press non-algebraic keys such as the symbol above the number 
  22. 6 (^).

  24. 7.  Entire franctions with exponents in both numerator and denominator are 
  25. entered as usually written on paper.

  27. 8.  Alternate answers are evaluated.  3xy is recognized as the equivalent of 
  28. 3xy.  Positive signs and 1 coefficient can be used or omitted when not 
  29. necessary.  (Answers however must usually be in simplest form.  4+1 will not 
  30. be accepted for 5.

  32. 9.  Problems are easy to read and solutions are easy to follow.  All problems 
  33. are presented in 40 column screen format with effective use of boxes, color 
  34. and blinking.  Step by step solutions follow incorrect responses.  Each press 
  35. of the Enter key generates the next part of the solution.

  37. 10.  The software was developed on the assumption that it cannot replace the 
  38. teacher.  It was designed not to slow the student down by requesting each step 
  39. in the solution.  Rather it provides the student with what students request, 
  40. an infinite amount of problems with step by step solutions to wrong responses.  
  41. Because there will always be another problem, there is no need to give the 
  42. student a second chance.

  44. 11.  A complete record management system is included on each disk.  Each disk 
  45. is personalized to one student when it is used the first time.  The grades on 
  46. each level of each program is callable from the menu and can be printed using 
  47. Shift/PrintScreen.
